Tangs

I hope this is not a triveal  question. On the early guns were the tangs shaped mostly or were they mostly left square?

I think that even early on, the tang style was somewhat of a regional thing. Shaped tangs on European guns predate any longrifles yet known by decades.

As I look through both of RCA,s I count more shaped tang ends than square ones. I think there were a dozen or more shaped than square.    Smylee
