not thinking ahead

started my daughters rifle got the stock cut and ruff carved down, barrel inlaid then it dawns on me the rifle I took the measurements from fits me nicely .but my daughter is 4' 3'' I am 5' 10'' big oops thank goodness this is the practice stock. not a very good piece of wood .now that Ive done all this work now I will have to go back and scale down the measurements on the stock. only thing that I cant scale down is the barrel its a strait .45cal 7/8 that I cut down in length and a tapered barrel would be nice but I am not going to go the rout of tapering it .I don't have a mill or a lath just grinders and files .

for somebody that small i would think that a 13/16 barrel cut to the right length would be a slightly better choice. Less weight for her to hold up. Im still on my first build but im using a 42 inch 13/16 45cal barrel and love it.

I would not make it too short. She will likely grow out of it in a short time. I would make it about 13" or a little more. Its not that difficult to shoot a gun that is an inch too long. One that gets too short is a bigger problem.

I made a hunting rifle once in the summer and when I went hunting with it(wearing thick clothing) the stock was suddenly to long. I suspect that's why some of the Jaegers have a short stock a fleece skinned coat would do that . There is that to consider in a hunting gun

I'd give serious consideration to the barrel used by Cabin Creek in their Boy's rifle. That rifle is a a real gem.
One day I'd like to build one of their kits for my wife.
