I looked at the blog and can honestly say it did not enlighten me at all with respect to inletting an entry pipe.  What did I miss?

Well, if I remember correctly, he showed a rod inserted in the pipe to help with alignment.  A neat trick.  He also appeared to have the forward section of the pipe inlet, before starting on the extension.  Perhpas by using another pipe.  It also shows, in my view, the sensible approach of shaping the stock before pipe inletting.
