Tanner mold--handles?
« on: November 14, 2011, 07:42:02 AM »
For those using Jeff Tanner molds, what handles work? Thanks. Hoping Lee 6-cavity handles, 'cause that's what I have at the moment.

Lyman fits my .672 as well. Large in this case.

I use a set of Lee Commercial mold handles I bought through Track of the Wolf for $14.50 on my .62 caliber Jeff Tanner mold.

A set of small Lyman's just barely fit my .590 mold.  Lyman large would be a better fit.

I use Lyman (old and new), RCBS, Saeco and Ohaus large handles on my Tanner moulds. Seems to me the new Lyman handles needed to be filed down a tich - might have been narrow slots on the last Tanner mould, maybe not, maybe too thick handles ont he new Lyman set.  I have large handles even on the little .595" mould.

I purchased a .600" RB mould (sic)  from Jeff last year.  Although I have both Lee Precision commercial handles and Lyman small and large handles, I went right to the RCBS handles and never looked back.  They fit the mould perfectly and allow for literally seamless casts.

I actually e-mailed Jeff yesterday to inquire about a mould and handles.  He said he does not sell handles to the U.S. as that  is where he gets his.  He recommended I purchase Lee 90005 handles as they are a good value and they would be right for one of his .595 moulds.

Appears Lee is making thicker tines on their mould handles. Up until recently, they were very thin to fit the thin slots in their moulds.

On my .980 Tanner moulds, I used the Lee commercial gang mould handles.
On my .610 and .678, I used large Lyman handles.
They fit well with no modifications needed.

Thanks, folks. I'll be ready when the new .480 arrives.

Anyone ever say this site's great? ;)
