Curran Smooth Rifle
« on: November 11, 2008, 09:03:13 PM »
If you haven't seen it, you need to check out Tom Curran's Moravian smooth rifle on Contemporary Makers.  It's beautiful work.   I'm a fan of Christian Springs stuff like this.

I gotta say I am somewhat shocked to see my own work on the Contempo site. It's quite an honor to me.

Even tho' that gun is an older piece(2000 something), I am very happy to see it there.

Tim, that's in Eastfield village, a reconstructed village put together by Don Carpentier, about half an hour from me. That particular shot is in the tavern, in one of the upstairs rooms. Don will be showing his pottery at the Lewisburg 18th Cent Artisan Show. The village is comprised of fifteen or twenty buildings from the mid 18th to mid 19th Cent.  Don collected these from around Nassau and Columbia Counties, NY over a span of forty years. The PBS special with Geo Washington was filmed here, as well as many Merchant and Ivory films.

This is absolute proof that Acer has actually finished one. In truth, really, really nice.  Love the lock and carving.  Awful fancy for a fowler though. I'm dying to see the one finished he had at Dixons. The one with the great cheekpiece inlay. It looked pretty finished to me. I think we deserve to see pictures after being tempted for what seems a decade.

I very much enjoyed seeing the photo study of Tom's smoothy.  For me, it has the exact amount of embellishment for a hunting gun.  And so well done!

Taylor, I'm kiding him of course. Tom puts his heart into everything. As you do. This is what drives everything forward.
