I'm glad this situation happened.  It has generated a lot of great ideas and I appreciate all who took the time to respond.    I've never had to deal with a problem like this before and wanted to be as educated as possible before I began work.  I think it will go very smoothly.  Again, thanks to all who responded.  Rick

TOF.
Ive never been a CVA fan or owned one but they have thier place and shoot pretty well when they go off.  I guess that is why I never noticed it. Just proves you can learn from anybody. Rich Pierce is still good.

Not to mention that CVA probably got the idea from some original.
I need one in the 16 bore, the rod comes out about 2" under recoil.
People should remember that, while they have their place, some of us have never owned or taken apart a CVA or such and would not let one in the shop in the first place. Though I did do some work on a Browning Mtn Rifle once. It was improperly breeched....
As I expected.

Update...  I ended up mortising out the entire rr channel inside the forearm because of the severe angle at which the original channel was drilled.

I waxed the back end of a 3/8" ramrod drill bit, slid it into the mortise and filled it with acra-glass.  I capped it with a piece of maple and clamped it in place.  I rotated the drill bit 1/4 turn every hour for 3 hours.  At the end of the third hour, I saw that if I didn't remove the bit then, I would never get it out.  The acra-glas was adhering to the bit!   :o

After the acra-glass cured for 24 hours, I reamed out the hole with the drill bit and, Viola, it worked perfectly!   :D

Thanks to everyone who weighed in on this.  Rick

A very good thread with some excellent ideas.  I'm going to save this one.  Sooner or later I'm going to do this one to myself - and there were several great ideas in this on how to fix it..  Must admit I really like Long John's idea.
