I have an original barrel marked "Deustal"..........does anybody have any info on this person? The barrel is in pretty good shap.

Sounds Germanic.  There is no Deustal in listed in "American Gunsmiths"...

From my VERY limited German... A reference to the composition of the barrel steel. I'd suspect perhaps mandrel-formed using a band of iron and one of steel.

It could be an abreviation of the words DeutscheStahl or German steel that may have been used a a mark of quality. I know that German business letterheads use abreviations and one that comes to mind is GMBH which is a bit easier than <GesellschaftMitBeshrankterHaftung>or a corporation of limited liabilities.There are others but not now.
