Major screw up or easy fix?
« on: February 03, 2012, 11:14:32 PM »
I starting cutting for the rear sight and meant to cut about 2/64ths but cut almost three on the first cut. I backed up about 1/8th and started over, rear sight installed. Question now is could I turn my mig to a very low setting and fill the cut, silver soilder or throw the barrel away and hope to find another 3/4 .32 cal barrel? ???

What were you cutting with? Dovetail cutter in a milling machine? Hacksaw? You started cutting 3/64" deep, then moved the sight back 1/8", is that correct? You should have plenty of wall thickness left on that .32 cal x 3/4" barrel after a 3/64" deep cut. I'd keep any welder away from it. Just make a dovetail that deep, file/mill out a blank for it, draw file it to match the barrel contour and it should be almost invisible after browning.
Good luck

Good call!  I cut the rest out and started making a new dovetail. I sure am learning a lot about fixing screw ups with this first build. I cant wait to shoot my $450 rifle that cost me about $800.  ;D
