Age Finish for Pre-Ban Ivory
« on: February 09, 2012, 09:54:30 PM »
I've read about using hot,but not boiling tea and also Apricot juice for dying Ivory to obtain an aged finish.Has anyone used something else with success?
Thanks

I have used tea, also coffee on bone, but you need to check it often to make sure
you don't go too far. You can always age it more, but I know of no way to "un-age"
it.

I wouldn't mess with pre-ban ivory.  Do your artwork on it and let it be.  Real ivory will hold a nice patina on its own.
