This is the first iron mounted rifle I have seen with a wood patch box. I like the way the flintlock looks.

Nice job Jerry.

I have an iron-mounted transitional style rifle by Hill Pearce with a wooden patch box.  The iron furniture and wooden patchbox do a better job of showing the grain of the wood.

Iron mounted rifles with wooden patchboxes  are  part of our southern culture  :o :o My favorite .54 hunting rifle is as well...

Jerry, that is a beauty!!! And it almost qualifies as an antique ::) ;D ;D ;D

You do fine work sir, I really enjoy seeing it on the Contemporary maker's blog

There are quite a few surviving antique iron mounted rifles with sliding or pivoting wood box lids - they were not uncommon in the North Carolina piedmont area well up into the first few decades of the 19th century.  These are usually relatively plain guns with nice architecture and mounts, and little other ornamentation - sometimes simple moldings.

Tim, a 1984 rifle would come close to being an antique.

I didn't know iron mounted rifled existed until I joined this site, and that is the first one I've seen with a wood patchbox.

I guess this is because all the books I have owned had brass mounted rifles.

The more I look at the iron mounted flintlocks the more I want one. Someday!
