Hi Members

I am Steef 45 years old ,married and have one son ,we live in the Netherlands.
I am a collector for about 6 years now and collect Winchesters ,but since one year I am very interested in longarms special Kentucky rifles.
These rifles are hard to get in my country special nice and shootable one's, but now i purchased 2 of them so i am a happy guy.
The first one has a 42,3 inch barrel signed Jacob Sell and signed on the lockplate J.G Stutsman Dayton Ohio this rifle is a full stock tiger stripe in good condition and shootable ,land and grove's all good visible with no pitting call .32 ,2 triggers
The other rifle is a half stock with extra heavy barrel(more then a inch thick)40 inch,  signed W.Turk on the barrel (William) and signed on the lockplate J.Griffith (Joseph) Cincinnati ,i am not sure about the call but i think its a .36 also 2 triggers and lands and groove's also intact.
Both rifle's has no patchbox but the first rifle has on the cheekplate a silver inlay,looks like a sun or a 8 pointed star the second rifle has only a silver forendcap .
So this is what i have and I hope someone can tell me more about the rifle's or the gunsmith who made those rifle's.
I hope you all understand me because my English is not that good  
Its  a pleasure to read this forum and it will take a long time before a have read all the page's.

I am the moderator of the "ALR Museum" and if you email me the pictures, we will post them. Strong advice...do not attempt to shoot an antique rifle. Quite risky both for the shooter and the investment. The Sell, if correct, is likely a very important rifle....York County and desirable from a historic and collectable perspective.

You appear to have 2 very fine rifles. I have listings, brief, for both makers: There are 3 Jacob Sell listed; The first is 1793-1825 in Littlestown, Pa, the second 1800-1825 Littlestown, Pa and the third 1800-1825 Canton, Ohio. The puzzle is the lockmaker who is listed in Dayton, Ohio 1850-1854. The dates indicate that perhaps the lock is a replacement. William Turk is listed in Ohio 1832-1847 and then moved to Greencastle, Indiana. I have a John Griffiths in Cinncinnatti, Ohio 1834-1866 but the Joseph Griffith I have is in Tyler, Texas.

As mentioned earlier, I would consider the value before I shot either one of these rifles.

You have no reason to apologize for your English. I made some small corrections, but your post was completely understandable even without.

I cropped some of the photos as you will probably see. Thank you for sending them in the proper format. One thing I might request in the future is not to mix two guns in the same batch. All the same it worked out well.

Please ask your associates to consider sharing their rifles with us. It's nice to know that those on the far side of the salty pond appreciate American folk art. We're honored here to have you as a member.

Nord and Hurricane

Thx for posting my pictures.
I try to find more of these rifle's from associates and share them on this beautiful forum ,no problem.
Most of them have replica's (italian,spanish etc) for shooting, the antique one's in the safe  i do my best.
Now its waiting for reponse on the rifle's i am very curious if there is some history of the gunsmiths or what kind of rifle i have.

I remember as a small child meeting a friend of my grandfather that knew Wm. Turk. He had a gunshop on the North side of the square here in Greencastle, Indiana.  Every now & then one will turn up here close to town. Looks like this rifle did some serious traveling!
