Boone horn images needed
« on: March 12, 2012, 08:43:06 PM »
THere was a powder horn kept at the Nathan Boone home...
I think this same horn was shown in a National Geographic magazine
story about Boone...has anyone seen additional images of this horn,
or does anyone know where this horn is currently for that matter?
Any help would be greatly appreciated..
sincerely, TC

There was a photo on the net a while back of a horn and pouch combo reputed to have been Boone's--you might be able to find it by googling....

P.S., it has been pointed out that most so-called Boone artifacts are spurious.

around 1985 or so. Thanks again..

The December 1985 issue of National Geographic had a story entitled "Daniel Boone, First Hero of the Frontier". perhaps that's the issue you remember. Copies of National Geographic are usually fairly inexpensive, but that issue also had an article on the Titanic, and with the centennial of it's sinking just weeks away, it may command something of a premium.

Thanks Kop...Im sure you are aware the one with the bag is missing too...the plain horn I dont know anything about.

I do have a set of images from that missing pouch and horn taken by the family before it went missing...in fact I researched that exact article for the Boone Society at the link you posted, that posting is a synopsis of the article that apperared in the "Compass"...that particular horn was carved a bit too, but the additional images I have from the family are of poor quality. Since it is missing just like the Boone home piece, and we cant look at them in detail till they turn up its hard to know for sure what was on them or how to best make a copy etc...Im looking for the Boone home horn especially, but thanks for the help.
