Trigger plates

If making trigger plates from scratch, how thick a steel to use, and what kind of steel is good for this application. Also is there a style of trigger plate for the Reading school or the Lancaster?

I use about .062. But I silver solder on a boss for the screw to go thru. Trigger is pinned up high in the stock, not connected to the plate.

I guess yo mean another piece to thicken the plate. what thichness is the finalised plate for the screw?

I start w/ 1/8" thick steel and file down to 1/16" except the area for the tang screw threads.....Fred

I start with 1/4 in round steel and forge a strip 16th or so and tapered to size, punch the slot and nick it off a little long. Then I turn it around and fold the boss over.

Most I've seen have been around 7/16" wide. +/- a bit.. I do what Fred does... 1/8" thick mild steel, leave 3/8 or so full thickness. File rest to about 1/16 thickness, cut trigger slot. File in the taper..

Thin plate, with silver soldered on boss for the screw. The tail of the plate is pointed to capture under the wood of the inlet.




The trigger is pinned up really high, quite near the center of the sear pivot. Note trigger slot is angled toward the shooter's hand.
