rear sight dovetail mishap
« on: April 15, 2012, 12:06:47 AM »
I'm installing a rear sight in a .54 light weight swamped barrel, and was upsetting for the dovetail [towards the narrower
muzzle end ] when the upset piece broke off !! The thing behaves like it has a harder "skin" with underlying
softer metal. The sight is made, and I don't particularly want a larger profile slot in the barrel, so was thinking of soldering a decorative piece to the barrel, and save the day...perhaps a small brass overlay on the muzzle side of the sight slot ? With some file work, engraving, it might look pretty good. Any suggestions ?

Can you make a new sight with a skirt on the front to cover the goof or do I not understand the problem?   Smylee
