Rather than destroy a good stock blank, invest in a good book that tells how to start, build and finish a rifle.  Buchelel's book first comes to mind, 'cause that's how I and many of us started.  Read it thoroughly and follow the instructions and advice.  It'll add measurably to your enjoyment and success.
