Gutchess

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I remember meeting and talking with Jerry Gutchess many times so very long ago. I know his son, Allen, was also involved with muzzleloaders and building them. Jerry has long since passed away, but does anybody know what has become of Allen? I'm just sorta curious.

if his name is Alan I believe he's a very serious and astute student of the longrifle and its culture.

I'm not sure of his exact title but Alan may be the director of the Fort Pitt Museum. He mounted this important exhibit on the Amerian Frontier Rifleman about a year ago. He has also been very involved in organizing seminars on the Eastern Woodlands Indians.

This on-line article by Alan is one of the best ever written in terms of advice for folks interested in putting together an authentic historic "kit" for re-enacting the colonial frontier.

Aww shucks guys..., my very own thread. :-[

Gaeckle,
I am Jerry's son and as Gary pointed out, I am currently the Director of the Fort Pitt Museum in Pittsburgh, (at least until my plans for total world domination are finalized).
You can find my contact information at the bottom of the webpage below:
http://www.heinzhistorycenter.org/secondary.aspx?id=298#Staff

Invictus,
I would love to post more often here, but I usually only get a chance to even read the threads every few weeks and just now stumbled on this one.  Usually by the time I get to read a thread on the Antique Longrifle forum, it has already been beaten to a fine pulp.  "He has a marvelous sense of humor.", can I quote you on that?  Most folks use the phrases "sarcastic smart-ass" or "pompous jerk".

Rich and Gary,
I'll buy you both a drink next time I see you if you keep up the compliments.  Rich, are you in the KRA now?

Alan

Wow!  How nice to here from you. I recall many times in the past speaking with and meeting your father. I forgot where I had recently seen his name, but that sparked my post.

Thanks Gaeckle,
He is still sorely missed here.  His 12 year old grandson, my son, will be building his first flintlock gun this summer, so maybe we can get this obsession to pass on to one more generation.  Unfortunately, my dad passed when he was just six months old, but he knows all about his granddad and owns several things he made.
