Why is it these threads always turn to personal attacks. Please let me make a couple of points.

First if TVM and similar companies marketing departments are going to continue to label their guns by the names(Early Lancaster,Late Virginia etc. etc.) it is clearly with in the mission of this board to discuss whether or not they fall into those categories. When a long time student/builder of Early American longrifles tries to educate as to what a TVM actually represents personal attacks are unwarranted. No one denies that TVM and similar companies fill a niche in the muzzleloading world but they neither have the time or interest to really get the details of American Longrifles correct. The discussion of these details is always welcome on this board. No one is attacking you for you for your decision to purchase their products just that their marketing them as a particular example of an American Longrigle school misses the mark. Please lets keep these discussions from getting personal.

Second the honest critique of what is or isn't quality work is also consistent with the mission of this board. This can be a bit more sensitive. Some handle the critiques well and some don't.Most people here are very good about this sometimes too good. How many times have we seen rifles get atta boys as if John Bivens himself had built it.We will continue to allow these types of discussion but again please don't allow them to deteriorate into personal attacks.

This all seems civil to me Mitch. Sure is easy to tell who owns a TVM. ;)

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

People who cut down other people or what other people do have a serious character flaw. I do not do bussiness with these kind of people no matter how great thier product is, nor do I recommend them.
We are discussing products, not people and attempting to educate . I guess we're failing in the education department.
My guess is you have several TVM's in the corner and don't care for any critique of your investment.

Yes I have three TVM's

and two Danny Caywoods

and one Phil Cravener

But I have to ask Mike if some one said your guns were'nt all that or 100% period correct, how would you take it.

By the way Jaeger is spelled JAEGER, not JEAGER. Please fix that on your web-site. Don't be mad I'm just educating you.

Jeager rifle with a 31" .62 cal Getz barrel, Heavily modified brass mounts
with a L&R Classic lock and Davis set triggers. All set into an outstanding
piece of Euro walnut stock.

Not really.  I know that Randy owns at least one.  I have owned 3.....one by choice and 2 by chance, but they were all Garner guns, not Avance guns.  The first, I gathered all the parts and sent to them because I didn't have time to fool with it at the time and needed it quick.  The 2nd was a Grand rifle that I bought from a hard-up reenactor.  The 3rd I won as a prize for winning the aggregate at a rendezvous.  I turned the last two over quickly and made $1800 quick profit, because they are saleable to the right people.

I don't know what similar companies you are talking about, but you need to get it into your mind that TVM is a home garage based business.  They don't have a marketing department and their employees are their children.  They are no different than any other builder on this board who works from their garage or home workshop.  They are successful because they bought an established company with a long recognizeable name, TVM, and they sell to a niche market.

Lastly, news "hot off the presses" which I will post in another reply.

Now let me ask everyone if some one came up to you on the street and said your car is a piece of junk, or your house is a dump, or your job is stupid, or you dress like a bum. Are you telling me you wouldn't take it personal. I find that hard to believe.

This just in....

TVM has recently relocated to Natchez, which is where Matt was from originally.  Toni has taken a job with Historic Jefferson College.  This raises more questions than it answers.  I suppose that other details will develop as time passes.

TOF
I understand they don't have a "Marketing Dept" as any reasonable person would understand I was referring to their websites, advertisements and customer claims.

The discussion is not about your rifle being junk it is about whether it is an accurate representation of a specific school or time frame.

Guess we're done here.
