Horn W/Two Bands
« on: June 11, 2012, 08:47:02 PM »
This one is about 14 ½” around the outside curve. The base is Walnut, hollowed out about ¾, held in with 4 steel pins. The tip is horn with a pewter spout, held with 3 steel pins. Each of the bands has 3 pins. Color is from heating, coating with Brown dye and wiping it back.
It is my take on another from the Kendall collection in Scott and Cathy Sibley’s, Building The Southern Banded Horn.

Nice job. The original horn is small & screw tipped. The end has a English silver thimble with the tip removed.  Like your horn.

That figures, I started out with a screw tip then, when I enlarged the pic of the tip portion, I thought I saw a pin so I changed direction and pinned it.
Do you think the silver was added after the fact, as a repair?

  Thanks, Tim C.
