Another Banded Horn
« on: June 19, 2012, 03:25:15 PM »
It is about 14” around the outside curve. The base is Dogwood, it is about 2 ½”, hollowed out about ¾ of the length, held in by the same 4 steel pins that hold the base band in place. The horn tip is pinned on with 3 pins. The bands were heated, pressed on and pinned with 3 pins each.

Very nice!! You have been building so many horns that I'm certain you are out of room to keep them. Probably better send some to me for storage! ;D ;D ;D

Nice!  Dogwood is supposed to be super tough and hard. How did you stain it?  Looks great.

Very pretty horn Tim. Reminds me of a rattlesnake tail.
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

It is, it makes good mallets, it also turns really well. The color is AF, with some burnt Sienna, rubbed in, then oiled. You can see from the pic that it is a very light colored wood, the second pic has some oil on it.
