Ephriam,
The only double headed bird I have seen on a long rifle was the Adrew Verner double headed  eagle/turkey that was inlet in the forearm belly just a head of the front trigger guard finial. The rifle I believe  is in the RCA I by Shumway.  I am sure there are others that may be out there but I have not run across them yet.

Dave,  John Shuler also used an almost identical Imperial eagle on some of his guns, at the same location.  I used to question what an Imperial eagle would be doing on a post-Rev war gun.  I was then informed that one head of the eagle looks to tyranny and the other looks to anarchy.  It is a reminder that we came from tyranny and could easily slip into anarchy, thus we are to position ourselves between the two---the centerline of the rifle.   That is my story and I am sticking to it.....Lucky

In "the Frontier Rifleman" by LaCrosse there is a Doub attributed rifle with a double headed bird(?) type patchbox head. I believe it is a restock of an earlier rifle as the architecture seems a bit funky.

A German friend told me the Doppelkopfadler or double headed eagle was always confused when looking around so it fouled its own nest and declared war on everything around it.

I like Lucky's story better. I think I'll stick with that one. ;)
