Ed Rayl Barrels for Lebanon County Rifles
« on: June 25, 2012, 09:24:28 PM »
If anyone is interested in building a Lebanon County rifle such as a J. P. Beck, Christian Beck, or Nicholas Beyer, that Ed Rayl has a barrel pattern from an original J. P. Beck octagon to round barrel. I ordered a 47" barrel at 50 caliper, rifled and a matching one bored out to 54 caliper smooth bore. The 50 came in at 4.15 lbs and the 54 was 3.1 lbs. They are .940 at the breech, tapering to .900 at the wedding band. The octagon part starts at .760 and tapers to .715. They are a very lightweight for the 47" length and should make for a nice slim build, that is hard to achieve otherwise. Needless to say, Ed does have a waiting list, but it is worth the wait.

 Van,
Good information and a necessary item for anyone wanting to make a faithful copy of a Beck smooth rifle.  The one that I have on that pattern is rapidly becoming my favorite.   I wish I had stepped the bore of mine up to rifled 50 like you did.  Good to see you again at Picksburg.     Ron
