Nautical Design Day Horn

Nothing special....just had a small horn that was too big for a salt horn an too small for a full size horn.  Excellent size for a day horn though.  The spout has a brass insert and a cap that doubles as a powder measure.

once again, thanks for sharing.  I enjoy seeing your metal lathe work.  It inspires me to think outside the HC/PC box with my own lathe work.

Fantastic Dave!!!  The scrimshaw is magnificient.  I love your work too.  Man, you have got to build a volley gun with a nautical motif.  Clear the decks!

WOW!! :o  Did you use the U.S.S.  Constitution as the model for the ship on the horn?   I really like it!

Thanks to all for the kind comments.

Dave R- Obviously, the tip on this horn is not really period correct, but it is useful and much easier to make than some similar original horn spout / cap arrangements I have seen.  In fact, the following one showed up on the Contemporary Maker's Blog today:

This one was made much better than mine, but then, as you well know, turning parts on a lathe is always much easier than forming similar parts out of sheet stock.

Smart Dog - VOLLEY GUN (with nautical decorations) !!!   Wow, now there's a project !  I'll start looking for materials.  (I need to give you a call anyway.  We can discuss the subject then.)

Horseman - Yes, the ship is loosely patterned after the Constitution.  One of my favorite ships.

Dave C,

I came to this thread late, so you had already answered my question if the ship was the Constitution.  While there are not too many classes of Sailed Fighting Ships I recognize right off the bat, your's just screamed "American Frigate" to me.  Very, VERY NICE JOB and that's from an old Jar Head who loves the Constitution as well.
