Wedding Bands

On all the rifles I see in the ALR Library the wedding bands and other filed in effects always appear dark, kind of like a dirt under the fingernails effect. Is that just shadow, or the way it photographs?

If you like shiney brass you likely won't see it very dark except in reflection. I like to apply a light patina to my brass parts and some others also do this. The patina will appear naturally on it's own but you have to use the rifle for this to happen. As the brass ages depressed areas and areas that don't normally get handled much will darken more than areas that get handled. Handled areas will tend to be somewhat more yellow/browm brass color just from wear. Again if you like your brass shiney you will normally clean off this patina applied or natural. Hope this helps.
