An Henry Wright showed up at my house

The following Henry Wright walked in my house this afternoon.   It would seem that it has been in the family since the original owner and has, until recently been gathering dust and a smattering of paint in the attic.    I apologize for the quality of the photos.   I only had a few minutes to take the pictures before sunset and had to push the ISO way up.   I gave the owner a price on cleaning, stabilizing, and photographing the gun.   They are interested in selling it.    It you are interested in the gun or knows someone who might be, have them contact me at mark@markelliottva.com or 804 746-8288.    In the mean time,  enjoy.

I can make higher resolution photos available to those that want to see them.  However,  they don't significantly improve the quality of the images because of the conditions under which I had to photograph the gun.   Much better images will be available if I get the contract to properly photograph the gun.

Neat looking old gun, big inlays. Is that a NC Rifle?

Yes,   it is a Jamestown, NC rifle.

The owners of the rifle were wondering if anyone knew what the roman numeral VII engraved behind the rear sight meant?    Any ideas?    They thought it might be a serial number but I know from the work, if nothing else,  that H. Wright had built more than seven guns when he made the one in question.   The inlay inlets were exceptionally neat and clean.

I have a few Jamestown NC rifles and they all have a roman numeral behind the rear sight.  From what I have been told, the number identifies the caliber.  Bullet molds from Jamestown were also numbered, at least the one that I have is.  If the owner lost their mold, they could get another mold with the same number on it and it would work for their rifle.  Mike Briggs would have more info on this.

Gibster got that mostly correct.  Each gunsmith used a different numbering system so one makers VII does not match anothers VII.
