C with a w stamped on lock plate?

Any idea of who made this large siler lock? Looks like a w inside a large c. Allso the frizzen screw has no screwdriver slot. thanks, chuck

No screw slot and those initials sounds like Walter Cain.  If so that frizzed screw is actually a pin.
That's one of Walter's tricks.

Those are great locks.  At the moment I am hoarding 3 Walter Cain built Siler locks, 2 large and 1 small.

Yeah i have a Walt Cain small Siler lock and a double set double action trigger on my Peter Berry... very fine lock and trigger!!

This lock is not mine, it was given to a friend about a year ago. So, how exactly does the frizzen pin or screw work? Is it still threaded, and you have to take the bolster off the plate to remove the frizzen? What would be the advantage of this? thanks, chuck

A number of years ago,maybe 20,I had Walter Cain send me
some of his business cards so I could send him work from people
that wanted a "Germanic"lock made. I never did make them and
have no intention of starting at this late date.He also made some good triggers
as well and he will be missed.

Chuck,

With the frizzen spring removed, the frizzen pin can simply be pushed out from the outside in.
When installed on the gun, the pin is held in place by the barrel.

I gave Walter the idea for a pivot pin for the frizzen to turn on.
He looked at one of my Ketlands and asked about the pin  and
I told him it was a 4/0 taper pin that was held by the lock being against
the barrel.Quick,simple,easy to remove and dirt cheap.
It requires only a box of pins and a reamer and a #42 drill bit and
that's it.
