Yesterday's shoot
« on: October 01, 2012, 05:30:25 PM »
7 ML shooters showed up had fine weather a good 'little' shoot offhand and bench - shot for seafood, shrimp, crab claws, flounder & salmon wunderbar.  We missed you Eric!!   Don't let family fussing keep you away,  we need to keep that club afloat, since we will not get another!!

So, how did you other clubs do. ?

Our 9/9 trail walk drew only 10 shooters (~ 1/2 were club members) even though there are quite a few more ML owners (inlines, typically) in our club.  Part of the problem is getting our club members to participate.  It's not as if we don't advertise, as we place ads in the local newspapers and at least 3 forums besides this one.  The other problem is not getting listed in the Ulster Co. Black Powder Shoots schedule.  (We plan to remedy that in the very near future!)  By way of contrast, High Woods Sportsmen, near Woodstock, N.Y., drew at least 20 shooters to their 9/16 trail walk, but they're listed on the aforementioned county-wide schedule.  Btw, even though the competition was rather stiff at High Woods, I managed to win back my $10 entry fee.

We admire your efforts and I would say that ads in a newspaper 'can' be a waste of $.   Best ad is word of mouth.  Traveling to other clubs shoots and jaw boning those folks is better still.... Although at $4. a gallon for gas hurts the travelers..   The modern and in line shooters seem to be afraid of being shown up and told they are doing something wrong i.e. unsafe....For a time I thought it was the Pennsylvania German in us that hated to be out shot....Now I see it all over the commonwealth.... ;)

Roger, I agree, paid newspaper ads haven't been productive for us either.  However, the two I placed were free.  Funny thing, at our "hunting challenge" last year (NMLRA animal targets @ various distances), the top shooter used a 'scoped inline with a BP substitute.  Btw, he's an excellent shot with CF rifles as well.

Roger - keep at it - we're paying $6.31 per Imp gallon here in the "North'.  That's $5.05 per US gallon. So -your fuel is still 20% cheaper than here.

I should have gone shooting instead of a last fishing day on a lake. Total cost for that, was 4 gallons (160 ouncers) = $25.24 for boat gas and perhaps 6 gallons for the truck - $37.86 - for one stinking little 14 1/2" brook trout - mind you he was very good tasting when we had him last night for supper.

Peed down rain on us for 6 hours - Gord picked up a nice (about) 2 1/2 pound Triploid rainbow at 17 1/2" - the fishing was quite slow - terrible in fact. We'd normally pick up 10 to 15 each in that length of time, in that lake.  the cold weather coming probably is slowing the bite.  Those that took and bit were very gentle - cautious in fact, no real strikes.

It's supposed to hit -4 C tonight - guess that's around 22F. Hard frost, anyway.  It snowed last night out at the lake we fished on Sunday - had to go out there today to find the set of keys I'd lost - another roughly 5 gallons of gas at $6.31 per gallon. Oh well, nice to find them - fit every lock I own, except for the truck and car.
