I was looking at a spokeshave I found awhile ago and see the name Jno
Durr is stamped into it. Does this name ring any bells?

Is it stamped into the blade or the stock? If the latter it could easily be a user name. I have a late 18th/early 19th century gouge with "MC" marked with a stamp on what is obviously a user-made handle. I think it was fairly common for workmen to have a stamp with which to mark their tools.
