Got 'er done!

I just finished the first of my Grandkid's guns. This one is built as a type "g" trade gun with a custom Getz .45 cal octagon to round 32" smooth bore barrel. A real feather weight. All hand made mounts designed to fit in amongst the few origional trade guns I had the priveledge to examine. Total weight 5.5lbs, LOP 12.5'.  Chambers Queen Anne lock. The serpent side plate definately tested my meager engraveing skills. The butt piece is nailed on as the origionals were. The barrel channel and ramrod groove and hole were done beautifully by Dave Keck. Don't ask me how the heck he did it, he hit the web thickness target at the rear end of the ramrod hole within .005! I kind of challenged him he said, because I requested only a 5/23 web between the barrel and ram rod groove and hole with a 5/16 dia ram rod hole in the lower forestock. Of course the idea was to steal wood from any place possible to keep a youth sized gun as slim as possible. Youth guns are the most dificult things to get slim enough to avoid the clubby look in my opinion. The Chambers lock rather suprised me, being used to their really nice quality I expected to have a usable lock right from the start. This lock just wasn't quick, it was just plain SUDDEN! The only thing I did was polish the outside. I don't see how it could be made any quicker. Tomorrow after Church the Grandsons anI will try her out. How does it shoot B.J.?

It shoots really well. Supriseingly, even with a stout hunting load of 75 gr ffg. it did not get wicked, as I expected for it's weight. Bark like heck yea, but kick, or cheek butt no. 25 yd aauracy, 1.5" or so. About as good as my eyesight can do with a rear sight a bit too close. My Grand Sons have shot it, the youngest is a bit more proficient than the older. We will soon be playing around with shot loads.....BJH
