I haven't measured, but I'm pretty sure my beavertail moldings end up being a bit below centerline as well.  Just seems to look better to my eye.

lock architecture plays such a big part in the design of a gun. Easily overlooked if you don't do a drawing first. Or when the stock is a big square block, 'oh, I'll just stick the lock here'...and then you have to work your way out of the corner you painted yourself into.

Runar, I am just speaking for myself, having screwed up a gun just for lack of planning ahead. But this discussion reminds me of that.

Looks Great Runar.  The new pistol appears so much slimmer with the dark finish.  A very close duplicate of the original.  You have Done Well !

Now, you must excuse me, I have to go out to the shop an finish inletting a pistol barrel  ::)

nice pistol,,have 1 question,,!!
on the pic of the unfinished side plate,,it shows 4 extra holes,, below the side plate
on the finished pistol they are not there.
does the side plate cover them? what are they for??
just asking is all
only flintlocks remain interesting..

Runastav, I think you are a very talented gunsmith. You build, fabricate, construct and that makes you a gunsmith in a high regard. Me, I am more of an gun asembler. Very nice work. Have you had the chance to shoot it yet?   Smylee

Wonderfully done. The pic by pic development was exceptional.
