Double barrel tang

Where can I find a double barrel tang 20 ga. or so ?

Since the tang has to be fit to the breech lugs, that's a hard question.  I have an old tang from a double percussion gun, but again, it has to match whatever lugs you have.

 Your can use an original standing breech . Weld it up and re cut it for your  plug hooks . Or if you can  find a 20 gage , simply make your hooks to match the standing breech .
 The other way is to make your own out of angle iron  or weld one up from 3/8 and ¼  plate .

There's a lot more to it than just making the hooks fit the tang.  It is nigh impossible to fit an original tang to a gun it wasn't made for.  You will have to have the whole setup custom made to match the barrels you are using.

They are right about this. I have been attempting to find a pair of barrels for an english butt stock, locks with standing breach tang. None of the barrles I hav epicked up over the last ten years have never fit. some were close but not what they should be. I will have to make plugs that fit the barrels then fit them to the standing breach.

It is a fairly straight forward task to make a double barrel tang from a piece of angle iron.  Here is one I am working on, an original octagon double barrel for flintlock.  Really not too difficult.

I guess for a double barrel percussion gun you would start with a heavier, thicker piece of angle iron to give enough thickness to shape those flash guard "wings" or whatever you call them.

 I completely disagree .
 Like anything else , the part must be fit to the original . Its not hard to do , just time consuming

 I have made many a SXS through the years and I don’t recall every  having a set of plugs that matched a Standing breech .
 Now I have made plugs to match original standing breeches . I have even made standing breech’s to match  original plugs . I also have  re fit originals to fit different barrel sets . To include  modifying percussion SB to fit on  flintlocks .

 here is  another were i used a long tanged SB to  fit to an original set of barrels  thats matching SB had been broken off


 I will also agree that all lock ups are  not the same . The reason they aren’t is that for the most part they are mad to fit the barrel set . Not the breech plugs made to fit the SB .
 Take you time .  Inletting black is your friend . When properly made the barrels will fit and  lock up  properly .
 Also not that not all  designs are hooked . Some are post  with locking bolts.  Here is a early French with such a standing Breech design .







Still others only  have one hook . In the case of this stepped breech  SXS the hook is center . However I have seen   original applications where  this single hook was as wide as a double hooked breech .
