Here are a few pics of a gun I started at Jacobsburg and finished with the help of Bob Rubbo.I put it in Dixons for judging in the apprentice category which was a great experience . This was my first gun.Any comments welcome.

Hello Bill;

The photobucket link you posted isn't working for me, tells me there is an "error on page." Maybe try posting the pix in ALR? Here is a link from the tutorials section explaining how to do that:

Glad the link is working. .I live real close to dixons and was there looking at the old shimmels.I thought that would be something cool to do for a first gun.I liked the idea of making a simple triggerguard from sheet brass.And no buttplate.I ,I inlaid a piece of cow horn into the top of the butt .I know it isnt HC but i thought it looked different ,and wasnt trying to copy anything to close.Any comments welcomed

There we go!

I was wondering what was going on at the butt. It looked like something had been inlet, but I couldn't quite make sense of what I was seeing. Now, the horn makes sense.

I don't know anything about that type of architecture, but what I can see looks good. It has a real simple, country look to it.

Simplicity has a beauty all its own; and kills just as good too. I like it.
I love to be able to see the nice grain of maple. Art and simplicity both have a place.
