i just received a new die sinker chisel from brownells i have an engraveing question
this chisel from the factory is groung at 30 degrees
is this good or should i grind it to 45  then do the sides?

I prefer 45* than a 5* relief angle on the back sides.
Over that, and the tip breaks too easily, less than that and I have to use more force.
I like square files I detemper, sharpen, then temper. They really make a nice 90* graver.
I use 56* for bead setting stones.

45 face angle is fine, especially for brass.

If you're cutting steel, you can do 50 degrees, which gives a little stouter cutting edge.
