Hi guys,.. I tried to find if there was a proper place to do an introduction but couldn't find it. so here we go. I use to build Pennsylvania / Kentucky and also Plains or Hawkins style rifles years ago, Building the last one in 1978.
Well, as I was cleaning out the garage, I ran across a nice Hawkins style stock blank in curly grain maple I cut out in the mid 70's, A 1-1/8" across the flats barrel in .54 Cal. with a breach plug, Raw cast Hawking style trigger guard and but plate and some other odds and ends,... And I am going to see if I can still do it.
Back in the 70's Dixie Gun Works use to sell a J&S Hawkins lock kit... It wasn't drilled tapped or assembled. But it was a very nice investment casting that was very correct to the original including the correct name. Does anybody have one? or does anybody know if they are still available? I would really like to find one.
Well after after 34 years of not building a rifle,... I think I am going to give it a try,.. and if it goes good, I have been thinking of trying to build a smaller scale boys rifle. A project I wanted to try years ago, but never got around to.... Thanks for having me here guys.
