House video's
« on: January 10, 2013, 05:49:45 PM »
Heschal had a 4 part video tape series on building a gun back in the '80's i think. I since lost it,and the video's I've gotten since are different from that original, the one where the chicken was being a PITA.

Has this video been transfered to disk,or does anyone know where I can get the original? I stll have a good VCR!

I got a buckskinner pal who says he's going to let me watch his, but I'm not sure what "edition" they are.  Let you know when I get my paws on 'em.  Yes VHS.

Heck that's the only reason i have a TV now.

I had just watched the video when I met Hershal quite by accident at the "Oldnorthwest" in Freedom,Ind,I think in '88. We had quite a good discusion on his use of black spray paint to give highlight's to his gun's.

Being a life long furniture refinsher I gave him my thoughts on how to get the same effect using "better" method's. We had a great visit. He loved my wife's "Cake Pudding",and I havent seen him use that method since. I'm probably wrong.

I too would like a source for the House videos. Does anyone know where they can be purchased?

I just bought the DVD set and I really like it.
It is fun to watch Hershel make all his parts. Makes me want to try it.

It inspired me to make my own as well.  Pretty fun, he makes it look easy.

The 2 DVD set is different from the 4 tape VHS. Guess i'll have to borrow it from a friend of mine.

I'll bet the VHS i eventually get will be what you're talking about, but-it may be a while.  Next time he and i cross paths should be April 19 or 20.  ;)

I have never seen the earlier version. Not sure it has been converted. I really enjoyed the second series. I wanted to try building a rifle for 5 years. I finally decided to try after watching the video.

If the 2nd version blew ya away, the first one will make you catatonic!

I believe the quality of those early VHS recordings may have precluded reproducing and transferring them to DVD.  I'm not positive of this but that was the impression I got from Jim at APV in a conversation years back.

Is the first one the one with the rooster crowing and the coal stoker running in the background? I have a 4 tape set that is weirdly edited but very entertaining nonetheless. I enjoy it despite the distractions. I also have a 2 tape set that is a bit more professionally edited that skips over some of the things done in the first set. Oh yea in the first set I believe Herrshel asks a couple of times about his positioning in relation to the taping. The sound fades in and out a few times, but all in all a good way to spend a couple hours.

I found it a little amusing for a guy that looks like Herschal to use the word charming so often.

is the first one the one where he starts out  going out and cuta tree down so as to replace the blank he is going to use . then he goes through forging the lock , barrel .......... then ends with him delivering the gun to the new owner ?
that’s the first one I ever remember seeing
if so the DVD set is nothing like  it . i have the DVD set and his Hawkins rifle build set  but again  they are not the same
