1805 Harper's Ferry Pistol
« on: January 23, 2013, 06:45:17 AM »
Gentlemen, and all of you experienced gun builders too:   I've not yet built a gun from scratch, but it looks like I'll have to bite the bullet to get what I  want.Ive decided that I can"t die until I have a replica of the 1805 Harper's Ferry pistol, so my wife wants me to hurry up and build one.I have precious little information on the gun, and I'm looking for a set of specifications and (hopefully) plans.Maybe I'm trying to tilt with a windmill, but if anyone can point me in a likely direction,They will earn my undying gratitude. I'm a little overwhelmed by all of the experience and skill represented on this site, but since I'm not very smart, I've always tried to make friends with people who are. Any input  given will be much  appreciated.   Steve Hare

I am not very smart either so I have to learn from pictures! ;) ;D

I don't have any instructions on that but I believe the NRA has a firearms museum that should have some pictures and maybe even more data for what you are looking for.

Steve, Building a gun from "scratch" can mean a multitude oif different things from forging a barrel to hand making a lock to even cutting down a tree for the stock . How much do you intend to do? Any way TRS has a complete set of parts  for that pistol.....Ed

Ed:  Thanks for the reply.I haven't really defined "scratch" yet; it depends on which bits I can find or afford. I'm retired (too old to get hired for a job) and have more time than money. I have a farmer's  hand cranked forge, but no skill yet. If i have to forge and file, that's all right. This whole project is more about the process than the end product. Thanks for info on the website, I hadn't found that one.  -----Steve
