Patchbox question

I am making my version of a bannana patchbox for a mountain rifle.  Do I need to bend it to match the curve of the stock, or do I flatten an area of the stock like I would do for a sliding wooden patchbox?  Which is correct for the mountain rifles.

The patchbox should have a curve to match the conture of the stock so leave the roundness to the stock,no flat spot.

The slight arc in the box lid makes it a lot stronger also.

Amen to the doming of the box. This adds tremendous strength with no additional weight.
