Mid-18th Centur Ft Edward "picture" Horn

This horn is inspired by a Samuel Crosby horn auctioned here in Ohio. The engraving mimics the original horn including stylized floral design with a fox, beaver, goose and turkey. The "owner" I chose was Lt Ichabod Fitch who served in the Connecticut militia during the F & I War and served at Ft Edward. He belonged to the 2nd Company under Lt Col William Whiting which mustered in New London. The butt has a "picture farm" turned from maple and inset with thin horn glass using strong hide glue used during the 18th century. The frame is made from turned horn. I used rag linen paper made on site at Colonial Williamsburg and ink from the print shop there. It took a while to get used to quill pen calligraphy to get the right feel for the period.

Times have sure changed. Gun control used to mean keeping the muzzle pointed in a safe direction
Never write a check with your mouth that your butt can't cash!

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.
