I have the start of a sorta/kinda copy of a Nelson Lewis percussion
target rifle. I didn't know he was such a fan of the back action lock
whish I'm not. I have pictures of N.Lewis rifles with bar locks and that is what I'll
make for the one I have started.
I've always liked these Northeastern rifles and Lewis is one of my favorites along
with George Ferris,Morgan James and N.G.Whitmore and anyone else that made a fine
quality rifle with decent sights.

Some nice guns there, but like you said, not many Kentucky's.

Seconding Rob and thanking you for the link. Those are fine looking rifles and it was a pleasure viewing so many. I got sidetracked somewhat looking at the 1800's Colt's pistols after noticing that those displayed on the site uniformly showed the same grayish patina. Not something one would expect to find in nature. That company has someone "improving" their Colt's (and some rifles) it seems.

I know this old collector aquaintance that had a very heavy target barrel on his table down in Cadillac MI a couple of months back. I took a close look at it and found N. Lewis Troy NY stamped on the top flat. It was in very good shape bore wise, but was nearly 2" across the flats if I remember correctly. A bit heavy for what I normally go for. It was priced very reasonable at around 150.00 including the patent tang. I think Lewis played around with different forms of rifling like gain twists and such.
