Rear sight on Albrecht gun

Hi folks,

I've got a question. On page 62 of "Moravian Gunmakers of the American Revolution" book, there is a close up of the rear sight on the Lion and Lamb gun attributed to Albrecht.  The base of the sight looks like it is made of brass, and the blade of steel (iron?).

I also have the DVD for these guns, and even when I zoom way in, I can't make out how it is put together.

 Does anybody know how this type of sight is made?

What about the dimensions of the parts involved?

Based the size of the barrel used and where this is placed on the barrel I would put that base at about 1/2 " square. I suspect that barrel flat is a hair under 7/16, maybe 13/32 . If thats a 2 piece sight, brass and iron,  I would set tha blade into a groove cut in the base and silver solder it in for strenght. I bet the blade is not very high as the front sight would be low also.

This kind of sight with the blade centered on the base and symmetrical design was often seen on Lehigh rifles,  lending some credence to idea that Moravian designs influenced early Lehigh makers.

Thanks Tom. I was wondering about the blade sitting in a groove in the base.  I'll have to practice my silver soldering again. 

It is one of those quirky things that caught my eye and got me thinking.
