Longrifles coming up at auction in central PA
« on: March 16, 2013, 06:37:22 PM »
From thje estate of James V. Dearing, who was a well-known Civil War re-enactor in central PA, as anyone who has attended the Memorial Day celebration in in Boalsburg PA will recognize.
My kids looked forward every year to watching them touch off the cannons.

I have no idea of the historical significance of these pieces,if any.
Would love to hear the opinions of  those more learned than I.
I may attend the auction just to observe and handle the guns, but i myself have no interest in buying.

Sad, a mans beloved collection on the auction block. I hope the provenance goes with the item when it is sold.

Some nice items in that collection, love that 1915 Stevens Arms .22 LR, its got style. I notice too that if the rifle had J. Goulcher on the lock then that is whom they assumed was the maker. There is a 1878 Sharps pattern rifle they labelled a "long rifle." Could be some bargains lurking in that sale Mike, you might want to arrive early and look things over closely.

The sum total of a mans existence on this earth, should never be judged by the the material possessions he leaves behind,.. But rather the love he takes with him, and the lives he touched......

It is sad........
