Ambrose Lawing on contemporary makers blog
« on: April 17, 2013, 04:54:02 PM »
I have a question about the Ambrose Lawing rifle that was posted to the blog. The tang appears to be in 2 pieces... well... actually 3 with the break through the screw hole. This would be a lot easier to make than a very long over-the-comb 1 piece tang. Is this common, or were most done as 1 piece? Is this something unique to this maker?

My opinion is that it is broken in 2 places.  They are normally one piece.  I have never seen an original intentionally made in 2 pieces.
Cheers,
Ken

My Lawing has the same tang- the one on the blog is broken.
