The naked longrifle
« on: April 29, 2013, 02:37:51 AM »
If this is in the wrong place please feel free to move it.

I have updated my web site recently to add a spot that I think will be of interest to some of you builders. The web site is still under construction but you can access this area.

What I am calling the Naked Longrifle are some pretty famous rifles that I have photo'd  totally disassembled. This area is photo heavy so give it time to load up.

I have also added a blog, not sure how that will do but if you like what you see leave me a note with any comments or if you don't like it leave that to.

The site address is www.parkerfirearms.com and it comes up Calvary Longrifles.

Great detail.  Thanks from one who has not had the opportunity to inspect a fine original at such an intimate range.

Thank you Jim.  :D  That is a wonderful resource.   I have seen those rifles many times, but it is always nice to be able to study detailed photos.    I see you snuck in a few pictures of the Brass Barreled Rifle.

I decided a couple months ago to build a rifle similar to one in an old Muzzleloader magazine, and lo and behold; there is the rifle on the Parker website! It is the one attributed to Shreyer. These pictures are much better than the black and white ones in the magazine. I couldn't tell what kind of wood the stock is from the mag., and I can see the ramrod is iron.

So, how common is an iron ramrod? Does that mean the gun was made as a militia weapon? Who could provide an iron ramrod?
As in life; it’s the journey, not the destination. How you get there matters most.

Okawbow,
I doubt that iron rod is original to the gun. Look how small it is in diameter compared to the size of the ramrod pipes.

Jim, Nice website, and the naked pics are a neat idea!

I am glad everyone is enjoying these pictures. I have a few more that I will be posting in the next couple of weeks. I have also accumulated a number of pictures of original guns that I will be posting in a antique section on the sight. A lot of these I do not have info on but they are nice rifles. I will let everyone know when I update.

hanshi,
The only way it'll work for me right now is to open the site, then hold your mouse pointer on the Naked Long Rifles heading (right above the word News ). A drop down box will appear with three guns listed. Move your mouse down and click on one of the guns listed, and Presto, there it is!
