How late or how early? If I'm not mistaken, I think there were some european guns made with horn end caps before the American Revolution.

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Yes Buffalo horn..Looking for examples of long rifles with black horn caps.

Is this a goose chase? Are any documented?
I'll keep researching...Thanks

I think it would be safe to say that Horn was used in Europe throughout the Flintlock period for Muzzle Caps or Forend Caps. Its popularity varied from region to region. The Jaeger Rifles that I have examined seen to be cow horn in various colors. I personaly like horn with some varigations of color. Use on American guns seems to be rare.

I too enjoy the look of the horn muzzle cap . I've never built a gun, but when I'm 'ready to' the English fowler from Wayne Dunlop is on my wish list. That gun is beautiful and it is from the 1770-1780's. Here's a link to take a look .......http://www.dunlapwoodcrafts.com/ComponentSets/EnglishFowlerRifle.php
