Brass barreled pistol

Still much to do on this one, but I feel the "worst" is over. The butt cap was the hardest thing I have ever made and inlet. I have done 3 now but this tear drop one was by far the hardest. Barrel maker unknown. Russ Hamm lock. Also a hard piece of walnut to carve. The grain runs every which way!

Looks like it is coming along there, cmac. Tell us about the barrel, it's maker, etc. One thing I have a thought about, the wedding band could use some shaping. It may be a little far forward as well.

Guys,
This pistol is well on the way to being a real winner. One area that can be improved is the amount of wood that is below the lock and above the trigger guard. From the photo it looks like there is a good 3/8 or even 1/2 inch of wood showing beneath the bottom edge of the lock plate in the side view. This gives the wrist area a bit of a chubby look. However, there is a really easy way to put the stock on a diet!
Drill a hole upwards in the front inlet of the trigger guard into the ramrod hole to see how much extra wood there is here. Then remove the wood from the bottom of the stock in the wrist or belly area. You can probably remove about 1/4 inch or so here and make the stock a good bit slimmer. Re-inlet that beautiful trigger guard and the job is done. Sometimes on original guns the ramrod actually touches the top surface of the trigger guard metal in this inlet with almost no extra wood here. I am sure that you will be pleased with the result.
Here is a photo of brass barreled pistols, see the much smaller wood dimension below the lock and above the trigger guard?

Thanks guys. I'm not sure of the barrel maker. It is unmarked and the owner didn't know either. It is a 45 caliber and 11" long. I would have removed more wood from the underside but I was getting close to the RR hole. The inletting/shaping and butt cap on this where a real pain. The grain runs every which way and swagging one of these caps out proved to be a challenge. The lock has had a lot of tuning and I had to straighten the lock plate as well. Gettin there
