A Unusual Piece

Enclosed are a couple of images of a unusual piece  It is percussion shotgun in 12 bore which when dismantle is easy to fit in the inside enlarged pocket of a over coat ,It was well favored by poachers for bagging a odd pheasant for the pot.

So poaching was it's intended purpose when it was made or was it made for someone who travelled and wanted
to pack it in a suitcase to be undetected or what?  Whatever the purpose, that is a unique and interesting

 Unusual for sure. It looks like the forward section of the barrel would come off at the band to make the barrel shorter too.

Don't forget, Feltwad is British,  with game the property of the landed gentry and no public access to hunting back then,  poaching was an art form.

 A gentleman who could travel for sport went for much more high end firelocks, packing in his suitcase to save room was not a concern.

    how is the barrel attached to the breach?  I suspect / presume that it has a hooked breach but I can't see a barrel key

Neat! I'm wondering about the thick band in the middle of the barrel. Does it screw apart, making it even more easy to pack

If you look at image 2 you will notice that protruding from the forend is a spring loaded fastener ,the underside of the barrel at this given point has a hook on the underside .When the barrel is placed into the hooked breech the barrel is pressed down which pushes the spring loaded fastener to one side and springs back to secure the barrel.
Has for the barrel yes it is reduced in size by the band in the middle of the barrel.Will try and take more images showing the fastener of the barrel

I still don't understand how the barrel comes apart at the band.
