Blue or Brown?

I see that the title "Brown or Blue" is spoken for. Hence my title. Different era and different country. I would like some opinions as to the proper barrel finish for an English Sporting Rifle 1760s, 1770s.

Blueing is fine all the way thru your period. A temper blue, although fragile would be absolutely beautiful and certainly correct. I would personally leave the browning for a little later in your time frame if I had to have it.

How about LMF degreaser/brown to rust blue? I have used it with success on a Rayle pistol barrel. Do you think that would be appropriate?

You can temper blue, and then lacquer for more durability.
