English rifle design
« on: June 28, 2013, 04:36:08 AM »
Without hijacking jumpy's thread, where would one go to get a good book with lots of information and photos of English rifles such as the Rigbys. I've seen a few in "coffee table" books but something more in depth would be nice. Thanks in advance!

The Gun Digest for 1971 and 1973 area good start.
Muzzle Blasts for Feb.1987 has an article on Don Brown
written by John Bivins. I gave my copy to Taylor a while back.

TOTW sells a couple of blueprints for English rifles.  There is also a book that i think is called English Rifles and I think the author is Nigel Georg.  I've got a copy somewhere but I ain't good at remembering stuff like Bob is.  While he has a photographic memory, I've got a Polaroid memory and the pictures fade over time.

When it comes to names, I've got a Kodak memory. Just there for a Kodak moment! Heck, it takes me 1/2 way through Thanksgiving to remember all of my cousins names. :-\

There are some decent photos of the Irish Shooting Team from the 1870's in Ned Roberts' book on the caplock rifle. The book also has some pretty detailed close up shots of their rifles & of course descriptions. If you've ever wanted to know anything about the matches between the Americans & the Irish, read the book.
