The Ganagarro blanket (white with red stripes throughout is based on the original blanket fragment in the collections of the Museum of the Fur Trade in Chadron, NE. Richard Early, chairman of Early & Marriot of Witney, England came to the museum in 1973 and drafted the pattern for the reproduction of this 17th Dutch trade blanket. Early's made at least 5 different trade blankets to commemorate the American Bicentennial.
The Lachine was also one that was made and it has the alternating red and blue stripes. I do not know where the original is that this was based one.
The oldest point blanket in the world is at the Museum of the Fur Trade. It was carried by a soldier in the Revolutionary War, it is white with black (indigo) bars and 3 points. You can see it on the museum's website,
www.furtrade.orgOne of the 1976 blankets is white with a 3" black bar with a narrow bar above and below on each end. It has 4 short points. It is the only one of the 1976 reproductions that has points.
All of the blankets they did are great for re-enacting. The Museum of the Fur Trade has one of the Ganagarro's for sale in the Museum Shop--the first one I have seen for many years.
I bought several of these blankets in 1976.
Good luck and hope this helps.
