 Just finished this up this AM. It has a small Davis head with some modifications. The cap, mouth piece and inlays are poured Pewter. The cleanout plug is made of Pewter and tapped ¼ - 20 NC and a piece  of antler that is threaded. One end turns into the ball and the other into the cap. The cleanout was going to be all Antler but I managed to twist the ball off while threading.

Nice work, Tim.  I like the pewter bands a lot.

My son, Michael, is working on a Davis pipe tomahawk (about as quickly as I am finishing his rifle) and plans to do poured pewter bands.  Looking forward to the tutorial.

I have one I just finished.  Really would appreciate you sharing your technique.  It looks so well inlaid in the finished haft.

I like the poured pewter bands very much. Here's my attempt, I did the end cap as a pewter pour and the mouth piece is deer antler. The head is larger then a Davis head. It's something my Pop had in the shop, he said he picked it up from Speedy Hogarth years ago.

 There are also some horns, the flat priming horn was my first attempt and the Map horn was done by my good friend, Harry Kepler.

First off time a big two thumbs up - very clean and a beautiful job (now ya just have to learn to forge your own heads!  ;) )

and while I wish to take nothing away from Tim for those wishing to learn how to pour pewter wraps such as this see Alan Longmire's tutorial here which uses the same method as the book on Pipe Tomahawks by the Gutchess Bros:

 Thanks for the positive comments. The Tutorial that Chuck posted is very similar to how I do mine so I will hold off until I do another and will take step by step pix.
 The hawk went to a new owner at the CLA show on Friday. I have a couple more heads and will be adding handles to them along the way.
 Chuck is right, I should forge my own. Brought a small forge from Va. to Oh. with me but haven’t even set it up and am in the process of trading it off for….some forge work :)
