My new project.
« on: August 05, 2013, 02:07:44 PM »
Ok, so, I have not built anyting for about 12 years. I have been itching to have a flintlock pistol so, I decided to do a kit and save a little time. I chose the pistol kit from Jim Chambers. Here is where I'm at......

Looking good. It should be a nice pistol. What caliber?

Looks like the trigger is inletted quite deep and that you could take wood off the underside from the trigger plate forward to the entry thimble.  What's that notch in the lock inletting?

There is much wood to remove all over the stock. The "notch" is clearance for the cock when it is the forward position.

Doug; I'm enjoying your build however the last four pictures are missing. I would like to see more. Thanks for sharing, AJ.

I've done a few of these and they look harder than they actually are. Just lamp black and carve away the darkened areas. It takes some time but the end result is worth it

Looks like a very nice kit that Jim is putting out, and so far it looks like you're well on your way to having one fine pistol. Thanks for the pics.

Thank you, I was worried about this part. I am satisfied with how it came out though.

Almost time for decorations... Looking slightly less ugly and more like the tool It was meant to be.

Decoration in process with MUCH help from my good friend Jack. It's not finished, more detail will be added to the carving around the tang and a little more wire inlay work. I played around with rust bluing as well. I really like how fast the Dengler's Rust Blue works.

Looks awesome! The rust blue looks real good especially on the pipes and you and Jack did a great job on the inlays and carvings. You'll be hitting bullseyes with that in no time!
